Official Palmer Adventures Logo Adventure Academy USA
is the Palmer Adventures
"flagship" program.
A Christian journey highlighting academics, adventure,
and intentional Christian discipleship.
Adventure Academy USA is intended as a rigorous academic
adventure program for Christian teens who are looking for a change
of pace, a new environment in which to excel, and for students who
need to take life by the horns.  It is intended for students who may
have had some trouble in the past, but are capable to move forward in
a bold new way!  AA-USA is a spiritual renewal program... We are not
a residential treatment, boot camp, or 'therapeutic' boarding school.
Youth Ministry- Adventure Program:
-fully staffed by Christian leaders,
-accredited High School curriculum,
-student-motivating adventure trips,
-unparalleled adventure options,
-student mentors for life decisions,
-all boys and all-girls... but NOT co-ed,
-student-driven itineraries,
-experience with "troubled teens",
-a family resource for troubled teen issues.
Adventure Academy USA blends an innovative, accredited academic program,
motivated Christian educators and students with an awesome Christian adventure
program; bringing out the best in our students, and inspiring them to break from the
mold of "troubled teen" and take their Christian walk to the next level!
What does an Adventure Academy USA semester look like?
Students are involved in the course design of every
adventure camp, and take a substantial road trip every
month.  In fact, our students are in adventure camps 2-3
weeks of every month.  We utilize base-camps at
Wilderness Trails, which offers 160 forested acres in
sunny Southern Oregon in a gorgeous 40 bed lodge for
rest, re-supply, and for planning our next adventure; and in
historic Joseph, Oregon at the Flying Arrow Resort.

This is what we're planning for Fall 2006:

October-  Re-supply @ Base Camp
Utah/Moab MTB touring
Family Weekend

November-  Re-supply @ Base Camp

December-  Re-supply @ Base Camp

Christmas Break
With all of this emphasis on fun and adventures, how
do we get any studies done?
At each adventure camp, the group sets up our portable
school, called Field Campus, a rugged group-sized,
wood-stove heated canvas tent that is filled with tables, chairs,
bookshelves, computers, recreational and academic resources.
This is our "school".  While adventure is the vehicle for our
trips, academics are the Core.  Students spend several hours
a day in focused study.  Our programming encourages wise
use of time (time management) and rewards creative thinking.
Academic time at Adventure Academy USA is designed for
teens who may have struggled with setting boundaries in the
past, lack focus or drive, are easily distracted by negative
peers, and are not performing up to their potential.  We want
students to succeed!
What about communication?  How do I keep up on
what's happening?
Communication is a critically important area of any program or
relationship.  AA-USA wants every parent and student to maintain a
clear line of communication and to facilitate this, we will set up weekly
appointments for each family.  Parents are encouraged to call the
office at any time.  Due to the nature of our academy, students will
not be available at all times for phone conversation, nor will students
be provided with phone access beyond their weekly family
appointment (or other approved call).  All student activities include
sophisticated communication technology for emergencies and other
pertinent communication.  Family Workshops are held each semester,
and are a hallmark of the Adventure Academy USA program.
Managing Risk
Safety is a prime concern for AA-USA staff.  Every student activity is
supervised by medically-trained staff, who are ready to deal with
common maladies and injuries.  All adventure options are supervised
by Wilderness-specific, medically trained staff members.  While no
program or activity is without risk, AA-USA seeks to minimize
exposure and encourages students to act responsibly in their actions
and choices.  All students are required to have medical insurance
coverage.  Parents and students should be aware that our academy
is physically challenging, and students must be reasonably fit, and
mobile, in order to participate.
Expense/Financial Aid
The cost of attending a private program for youth is one of the most
important factors in many families decision process.  The families that
are involved with AA-USA are committed to securing the most "bang
for their buck" and have decided to place primary importance on
Christian programming, quality of service, and our staff's experience
in the field.  Our staff to student ratio is almost unheard of in this
industry!  Our tuition, when considering our adventure-programming,
staff ratio, and overall programming is incomparable.  We are here to
exceed the need.
